Managing Pain
 | | | Since high schools and colleges began to require use of facemasks and mouthguards for football, about 200,000 injuries to the face and mouth have been prevented each year. |

| There are many methods for relieving oral pain. They include:
- Ice packs on the affected area.
- Avoiding hard candy or ice.
- Avoiding sleeping on your stomach.
Dentists use a wide array of pain management tools, including:
- Anesthetics such as Novocaine.
- Analgesics such as aspirin or ibuprofen.
- Sedatives, including a procedure known as "conscious sedation" or general sedation (also known as "deep sedation").
- The Wand, we use a computerized anesthetic, the Wand, for all our procedures. This is what we feel to be the most comfortable method of giving injections to our patients. It is not only more comfortable during the shot, but afterward as the computer senses pressure in the tissues and provides a more controlled, comfortable experience. Our patients love it!
